Healing rarely begins with explanation.
It begins through faithful participation in small rhythms of life that quietly restore the capacity to live before they restore the capacity to understand.

When he died, the silence became almost physical.
The condominium that had once carried ordinary routines suddenly felt unfamiliar. Every room quietly reminded him of someone who was no longer there.
The pandemic intensified the isolation.
The funeral had been arranged under extraordinary restrictions. Much of the responsibility had fallen upon him alone. Friends remained distant. Family could offer only limited presence.
Looking back, he remembers less about individual days than the strange weight they all seemed to share.
Grief did not arrive as overwhelming emotion alone.
It settled into ordinary life. Sleep became irregular. Evenings became increasingly difficult to inhabit.
He occasionally reached for alcohol, hoping to quiet thoughts that refused to settle.
Nothing truly relieved the ache.
Then another rhythm gradually appeared.
