Returning home did not immediately answer the questions that had accompanied him for so many years.
If anything, they had become more practical.
How should one live? Could another way of life actually be sustained? Were the many ideas gathered through years of reading merely interesting theories, or could they survive the ordinary demands of everyday life?
The family had acquired property in Tagaytay. The setting felt remarkably different from the cities he had left behind. Without fully recognizing why, he found himself drawn toward the land.
Vegetable gardens gradually appeared.
Fruit trees were planted.

Again and again, reality patiently revealed itself through cultivation rather than speculation. Only years later did another constitutional recovery become visible.
