    Self-esteem is the subjective evaluation of one’s own worth, encompassing beliefs about oneself (e.g., “I am competent”) and emotional states tied to those beliefs (e.g., pride or shame). According to Rosenberg (1965), self-esteem is a global sense of self-worth, distinct from temporary feelings or domain-specific confidence (e.g., academic or athletic self-esteem).
